Blacksburg Transit said five routes will detour and some stops will close during the Virginia Tech Homecoming Parade in Blacksburg on Friday, Oct. 16. The affected routes are BMR, CAS, SMS, SMA and HDG, according to the transit agency.
Blacksburg Transit said BMR detours begin at 4:45 p.m., when stops on Stanger, Kent and Washington streets, Beamer Way and South Stadium close. BMR will serve West Campus Drive and the Chicken Hill parking lot, the agency said.
CAS detours start at 6 p.m., with stops on Kent, Stanger and Washington streets closed; CAS will continue serving both Loops and West Campus Drive, according to Blacksburg Transit.
Starting at 6 p.m., the agency said, all Main Street stops between Prices Fork Road and Country Club Drive will close for SMS and SMA. Temporary stops will be at Airport Road and Country Club Drive and on Country Club Drive near the Kroger entrance.
HDG’s 6 p.m. detour will close Main and Roanoke street stops, as well as the Harding/Silverleaf westbound stop No. 1517, Harding/Silverleaf eastbound stop No. 1504 and Harding/Patrick Henry eastbound stop No. 1506, the agency said. A temporary stop at Patrick Henry Drive and Harding Avenue will serve riders who normally use Harding Avenue stops.
Blacksburg Transit said detours are expected to end between 8 and 8:30 p.m., at the discretion of Virginia Tech Police Department; its alert listing says full service resumes at 8:30 p.m. Riders can check for updates through the BT app or the agency’s social media channels, or contact Blacksburg Transit at (540) 443-1500, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or ridebt@blacksburg.gov.
